National identity patriotic education for the youth has always been valued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China,but over time,globalization and cultural diversity have given new connotation to the issue of national identity.In this new era and new challenges,how to strengthen the national identity of the people has become a problem that the country can not ignore in responding to the rapid development of the era.As the future of the country and the hope of the nation,young people's self-awareness and evaluation are gradually taking shape,so how to guide them to form a positive national identity and help them form mature self-awareness becomes the main task of patriotic education.Based on this background,this research is based on motivated identity construction theory(MICT),explores the motivation of youth national identity from the perspective of identity motivation.And examines the relationship and mechanism between identity motivation(self-esteem,distinctiveness,belonging,meaning,continuity and efficacy),which has an individual level and a social level,and national identity.This study is mainly divided into two sub-studies.Study 1 involved 550 teenagers from enshi no.1 middle school in hubei province and issued self-designed national identity questionnaire for adolescents.Project analysis and exploratory factor analysis were carried out on the recovered questionnaires to finally form the national identity questionnaire for teenagers with good reliability and validity.Study 2 measured subjects' national identity(measured by the national identity questionnaire developed in study I)and their identity motivation(measured by the identity motivation questionnaire)at three time points.Then,the cross-lag model is constructed to finally explore the relationship between identity motivation and national identity.The main conclusions are as follows:(1)The youth national identity questionnaire has good reliability and validity,and can be used as an effective tool for measuring youth national identity;(2)The gender differences in the national identity of adolescents are significant,but the differences in birthplaces are not significant;(3)Among the identity motivations of adolescents,individual distinctiveness motivation,individual belonging motivation,individual meaning motivation,individual continuity motivation,social self-esteem motivation,social uniqueness motivation,social belonging motivation,social meaning motivation and social continuity,have significant sex differences.In all identity motivations,the source differences are not significant;(4)The national identity and identity motivation of adolescents have certain stability,that is,the identity motivation of the pre-test Tn significantly predicts the identity motivation of the post-test Tn + 1,and the national identity of the pre-test Tn significantly predicts the national identity of the post-test Tn + 1;(5)After controlling for gender and source variables,all the identity motivations(self-esteem,distinctiveness,belonging,meaning,continuity and efficacy)at two levels from T1 to T3(Efficacy motivation)has a circular effect relationship with national identity.
