Chinese teaching in the Philippines has more than 100 years history since the establishment of the first Chinese School Tiong Se Academy in 1899.But English has been the official language and already become the "quasi-native mother tongue" in this country for its colonial history.Furthermore,taking Xavier School as an example,most of the overseas learners exposure to Chinese is limited to the classroom.Combining the current teaching situation and the characteristics of students in this school to explore efficient Chinese teaching methods to maintain the enthusiasm and lasting motivation of learners,especially child learners,is necessary to promote the long-term development of overseas Chinese.Pedagogy is a guide for teachers to teach and students to learn.TBLT uses various tasks to create a situation which expands the exposure to Chinese of learners and stimulate the interest and challenge of students in learning Chinese.Based on the rich theoretical and practical achievements of TBLT in China and abroad,this article uses the textbook Easy Step to Chinese of Xavier School as the content base,designs the task chain according to the characteristics of the students,conducts two rounds of teaching comparison practice,and designs the task-based test paper to check student achievement.The following changes after the application of TBLT is the key issue.First,whether the task-based teaching process is more attractive to students;second,whether the task-based teaching improves the students ability in using Chinese;third,whether the teaching efficiency is higher.There are four chapters in the body of this dissertation:On the basis of previous studies and the characteristics of students,the first chapter briefly summarizes the basic connotation and teaching steps of TBLT in the Chinese classroom for the younger age.The second chapter is the background analysis of the application of TBLT in comprehensive courses.Questionnaires was issued to teachers and students for analyzing the current situation from students,teachers to teaching pattern in Xavier School.The third chapter is the detailed task designs.We used the fourth unit topic from Book2 of Easy Step to Chinese to design the task chain,especially showed task plans of Lesson 10.Moreover,The written and oral test tasks in the third quarter of the school year also revealed how we applied TBLT in teaching process and test procedures,which reflected the interactive system of TBLT between test evaluation and classroom teaching methods.The fourth chapter is the application result analysis.Through the comparison of students'classroom performance and test results,the applicability of TBLT in the basic comprehensive Chinese course was again verified.After reflection about practice deficiency,further suggestions for improvement are put forward:first,focus on the characteristics of Chinese itself and learners,and strengthen the pertinence and scientificity of the application;second,explore the diversity and flexibility by improving the task-based teaching method system and taking advantage of other teaching methods;third,take advantage of fixed textbooks and the modern Internet technology to establish a stable and durable Chinese resource library.
