Chinese teaching in year 7 and year 8 are important parts of Chinese teaching in Australia.On one hand,schools which offer Chinese language courses in Australia make Chinese language course compulsory in year 7 and year 8,so it is a stage where the largest number of students are exposed to Chinese.On the other hand,the situation of Chinese language teaching will directly influence whether students continue to learn Chinese.This paper investigates and analyzes the current situation of Chinese teaching in the secondary school of St.Mary's college of Australia by means of questionnaire survey,classroom observation and records,finding out the existing problems in Chinese teaching and putting forward the corresponding improvement suggestions,so as to improve the quality of Chinese teaching.This paper is divided into five chapters:Chapter 1 is the introduction.This part summarizes the research objects,research status,research methods and significance of this paper.Chapter 2 analyses the current situation of Chinese teaching in Middle school of St Mary's College.First gives a basic introduction to St Mary's College.Secondly,make a brief introduction of St Mary's College secondary school Chinese teaching situation from five aspects,including the teaching background,teaching overall design,teaching materials,teachers and students.Next,the paper analyzes the Chinese learning status of secondary students of St Mary's College through the questionnaire survey of the secondary school students.At last,showing the Chinese class in the middle school of St Mary's College so as to understand the real situation of Chinese teaching.Chapter 3 analyses the problems of Chinese teaching in the middle school of St Mary's College.Firstly,analyze the problems of year 7 and year 8 in St Mary's College in Chinese classroom teaching from three aspects including culture teaching times,classroom management and classroom activities.Secondly,discuss the problems of Chinese teacher from the classroom reflection of students and the numbers of teachers.Next,analyze the problems of students learning from learning motivation and learning attitude,basic Chinese knowlege.At last,the problems of teaching materials from the appointed teaching materials and the self-edited teaching materials would be discussed.Chapter 4 offers improving suggestions for year 7 and year 8 in St Mary',s College.Firstly,offer some suggestions for classroom teaching of St Mary's College in five aspects including basic Chinese teaching,the time of teaching Chinese culture,classroom management,classroom activities and teaching contents.Secondly,offer some suggestions for Chinese teacher in year 7and year 8 from five aspects including teaching objectives,Chinese proficiency,teaching methods,teachers employment and teacher's cooperation.Next,some suggestions for two problems which are students are not motivated to learn Chinese and are not interested in Chinese would be provided.At last,offer some suggestions for teaching materials in the appointed teaching materials and the self-edited teaching materials.Chapter 5 are the conclusion and the existing shortcomings of the paper.
