In recent years, when faced with the pressure from study, interpersonal relationship, campus life and future development, the early adults are unable to get rid of the negative emotions of tension and anxiety, which leads to personality distortion, depression, and suicide. Those bad news and tragic events have draw researchers' attention to psychological health, especially trait anxiety in early adults.Trait anxiety is a relatively implicit and stable personality trait.Previous studies have shown that high trait anxiety can easily induce anxiety disorders, such as generalized anxiety disorder(GAD)and posttraumatic stress disorder(PTSD).Through previous studies,we find that there are many factors that lead to individuals' trait anxiety, mainly in external environment, personality and coping style.Shyness is an important factor which closely connection to anxiety. However, there is no research systematic study on the relationship between shyness and trait anxiety. As well as the internal mechanism is not clear at present. Therefore, the current study will start from the important factor that influences the formation of individual anxiety—shyness, and introduce rejection sensitivity and self-esteem.The current study carried out a questionnaire survey of the Trait Anxiety Inventory,Shyness Questionnaire,Personal Rejection Sensitivity Questionnaire and Self-esteem Scale.Through questionnaire recovery and effectiveness screening,a total of 861 valid questionnaires were obtained. The objective of current study was to explore the mediating role of rejection sensitivity and self-esteem on the relationship between shyness and trait anxiety in early adults.Based on the results of the current study, the following conclusions ware drawn:(1)There was a significant gender difference in the score of rejection sensitivity, boys' rejection sensitivity were significantly higher than girls'.(2)There were significant grade differences in the score of trait anxiety, shyness, and self-esteem.(3)The total score of trait anxiety was positive correlated with the total score of shyness, rejection sensitivity and self-esteem.Furthermore,the total score of shyness was positive correlated with total score of rejection sensitivity and self-esteem.There was also a significant positive correlation between rejection sensitivity score and total self-esteem score.(4)In the current study, the score of shyness, rejection sensitivity and self-esteem in early adults can positively predict the total score of trait anxiety.(5)The rejection sensitivity and self-esteem of early adults played partial mediation between shyness and trait anxiety. The shyness of early adults can not only directly affect trait anxiety, but also indirectly affect trait anxiety through the rejection sensitivity and self-esteem level. There were two innovations in the current research.First of all, there was an innovation in the research content. The current study systematically explored the relationship among trait anxiety, shyness, rejection sensitivity and self-esteem of early adults.Secondly,multi-level analysis method was another innovation. In order to explore the relationship between these variables, correlation analysis, regression analysis and structural equation model were used.
