Since China is carrying out the polices of reform and opening up,doctoral education has made great progress.The enrollment methods are more various and the curriculum is flexible and rich.The structure of the teaching staff is more reasonable and the research output of doctoral students has increased year by year.However,with the rapid expansion of the training scale of doctoral students in China,the development of doctoral education is also facing many problems.In-depth study of the characteristics of various disciplines and the development of a discipline-based doctoral education process will help the better integration of disciplines and doctoral education,which is of far-reaching significance for further improving the quality of doctoral education in China.This study takes the discipline difference theory and the disciplinary culture hierarchical model as the theoretical basis,and adopts the qualitative research method to take one of the world-class universities as an example,and selects mathematics,mechanical engineering,foreign language literature and business management as pure soft discipline,pure hard discipline,applied hard discipline and applied soft discipline representatives.Through a semi-structured interview with a total of 32 teachers and students in four disciplines,in-depth exploration of the subject culture of four disciplines and the characteristics of the doctoral training process,and indepth analysis of the three levels of discipline culture and the influence of course teaching,mentoring,and academic training in the doctoral program.The study found that the doctoral student training process of mathematics was characterized by problem orientation and interest drive.The typical characteristics of subject culture are rational and active.The foreign language doctoral training process is characterized by reading many books and ideological exploration.The typical feature is loneliness and spontaneous;the mechanical engineering doctoral student training process is characterized by subject researching and combining production with learning.The typical characteristics of the subject culture are excellent and practical.The conclusions are as follows: the influence of the four types of discipline culture on the doctoral student training process shows the differences in the training links and the similarities in the disciplinary culture level;the discipline culture of pure discipline has an influence on the three links of doctoral students' training;the subject culture of applied disciplines has a significant influence on the curriculum teaching and academic training of doctoral students;the discipline culture of hard disciplines is important for the academic training of doctoral students.The discipline culture of the soft subject has a small impact on the doctoral student training process.The main contribution of this research is to analyze doctoral student training process in different disciplines from the perspective of disciplinary culture.We should carry out the doctoral cultivation policy of discipline classification and promote the inheritance of teachers and students of the discipline culture;improve the autonomy of doctoral students in pure hard disciplines and strengthen scientific research cooperation and innovation;reform pure soft subject curriculum teaching mode to enhance the learning effect of doctoral students;optimize the applied hard subject academic training process management to ensure the quality of academic talent training;encourage the applied soft discipline to establish a mentor team to cultivate all-round ability of doctoral students.
