A Research On Discipline Culture In The Process Of Discipline Construction In College

Both colleges and disciplines need developing. Discipline culture is the essential part of discipline construction in colleges. It is the measurement of its academic capability and the symbol of its comprehensive strength.The development of discipline culture accompanies the whole process of discipline construction.Discipline construction is the carrier of discipline culture construction. The culture is the soul of discipline construction. It has the irreplaceable role in the process of construction.This thesis tries to examine the series of phenomena and problems in discipline construction from a cultural perspective and probe the way out of discipline construction in colleges so as to develop discipline culture.Firstly, this research begins from two basic concepts, discipline and culture and makes clear the connotation, characteristics and structure of discipline culture. Discipline culture mainly includes three aspects: the long established values and linguistic code system; the common spiritual appearance shared by the members of the discipline, i.e. the established and accepted morals, thoughts, beliefs and attitude towards work; the set of behavioral rules and systems followed by discipline members in the long process of teaching and research. The characteristics of discipline are academic, inherent, exclusive, various and stable.Secondly, the author will compare the formation and evolution of discipline construction in Chinese and western colleges so as to analyze the process of discipline culture development. Then the author will investigate the reasons of different development of discipline culture. The different development history of Chinese and western colleges, the different ways of establishing a discipline and the cultural differences lead to different outlookof discipline culture in China and the western world.Thirdly, through the comparison of discipline cultures in China and thewestern world, the author finds out that there are deficiencies in discipline culture construction in Chinese colleges and thinks that these problems are not restricted to a single or certain type of colleges and they are rather typical. They need our attention.Finally, the author will analyze the long existing problems in discipline culture construction and give suggestions to deal with them. The author hopes that we can promote the construction of disciplines by cultivating discipline culture and lay a solid foundation for the further development of Chinese colleges.
