Based on the open relation of the Chinese state to the foreign countries and the developing economic situation of China,the relationship between China and Indonesia has changed for the better,therefore the demand for the Indonesian people in learning Chinese Language is also growing.The development of Chinese Language Tutoring also began to grow rapidly.Nowadays many elementary schools,high schools even Kindergarten includes Chinese Language as their main subjects.Teaching Materials directly affect the quality of learning.It is also a primary tool in the learning process.Nowdays,Chinese teaching materials in Indonesia are quite diverse.There are good and bad teaching materials available.The researcher objective is to observeChinese teaching materials in the city of Pontianak,West Kalimantan Province of Indonesia.The data are collected utillizing questionnaire,interview,and observation.The researchers have surveyed the situation in 35 schools including private and public school that have influence within Pontianak city.The researcher utilize SPSS software to analyze the result of learning Mandarin using current teaching materials.There are 4 primary category of Chinese language teaching material used in the city of Pontianak.The first is teaching materials directly imported from Chinanamely<hanyu>,<Tian tianHanyu> and <Chang Cheng Hanyu>.The second is the teaching material produced by cooperation between China and Indonesia namely <Huayu>,<Gen Wo XueHanyu> and<KuaileHanyu>.The third is native teaching materials from China namely <Meihua>,<Lai XuexiHuawen>,<You Zhongwen Gou Tong> and <Hanyu of the CungMeiCiao Writer>.The fourth is teaching material arrage by Indonesian staff based on external teaching materials for making new unpublished internal modules.Among these 4 the one most used are <Hanyu>,<Meihua> and <Huayu> teaching materials.Based on the observation,the researchers found,<Meihua> teaching materials were more suitable for use in Pontianak elementary schools,<You Zhongwen Gou Tong> teaching materials were more suitable for use in Pontianak Middle Schools and <Huayu> and <Chang Cheng Hanyu> teaching materials more suitable for use in Pontianak high schools.Currently each Mandarin teaching materials have their own advantages and disadvantages.It is recommended for the teaching staff to utilize the strengths and improve existing deficiencies.The staff should strive to create a pleasant learning atmosphere,make students interested,and improve the quality of Chinese language teaching.
