Interpersonal relationship has a profound impact on the mental health,self-awareness,academic performance and social adaptation of primary school students. As an important dimension of interpersonal relationship, peer relationship is different from the parent-child relationship and teacher-student relationship of primary school students, that is,it has equality and self selectivity.Especially for the senior students, their self-awareness is developing faster and faster, their psychological development is more explicit and developed than before, and the peer relationship has a greater impact on the physical and mental development of primary school students. However, what is the current situation of the development of students' peer relationship in the senior stage of primary school? What factors will affect the quality of students' peer relationship? And how shall we help primary school students improve the quality of peer relationship? In view of these problems, this study chooses 270 students in the fifth grade of an experimental primary school in Shenyang as the research objects, and conducts a questionnaire survey and related experimental research.First of all, this study adopts “The Peer Relationship Scale” and “The Class Nomination Questionnaire” to test the subjects, and finds that the quality of peer relationship of the fifth grade students in primary school has the following characteristics:(1)Generally speaking, the quality of peer relationship of the fifth grade students in primary school is at a medium level.(2)In terms of gender, female students are higher than male students in intimate relationship dimension, common activity dimension and average score, and boys have significantly more negative nominations than girls. In terms of class leaders, class leaders are higher than those of non-class leaders in the social anxiety dimension, common activity dimension and total scores, the positive nomination of class leaders is significantly higher than that of non class leaders.(4)In terms of families, the students of non-divorced families are higher in intimate relationship dimension, common activity dimension and social anxiety than students of divorced families, and the negative nominations of students from divorced families were significantly higher than those from non-divorced families.Secondly, according to the dimensions of “The Peer Relationship Scale”,researchers design the corresponding group painting theme activity scheme, and select two homogeneous classes through the questionnaire measurement, which are respectively set up as the control group and the experimental group.41 students in the experimental group participated group painting teaching activities, while the students in control group received regular mental health teaching. After eight weeks of the experiment, the experimental group and the control group were measured again.Through comparison, the following conclusions were drawn:(1)the overall level of peer relationship quality in the experimental group was significantly improved after receiving group painting;(2)in the peer relationship scale, the total score and all dimensions of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the pretest. There was no significant change in the total score and all dimensions of the control group before and after the test;(3)in the class peer nomination questionnaire, compared with the pre-test,the post test positive nomination of the three negative peer relationship students in the experimental group increased significantly, while the negative nomination decreased significantly. There was no significant difference in the control group. Finally, this study advances the following suggestions to improve the quality of primary school students' peer relationship:(1)schools should create a good campus peer communication environment to promote student peer communication;(2)teachers should guide the healthy development of students' peer relationship;(3)families should establish a correct approach of teaching and maintenance to lay a good foundation for the development of students' peer relationship.
