A Case Study On Family Education To The Firstborn In Urban Families With Two Kids

The Fifth Plenary Session of the 18 th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China put forth the end of one-child policy.It noted that all couples may have two children.More second children are getting in the family way.A series of matters like reconstruction of family structure and the impact from the second child to the firstborn must be concerned by all parents.The dissertation makes a study by taking the case study method.Above all,it elaborates the present foreign and domestic research of family education to the firstborn in urban families with two kids in order to get a full and clear picture.Secondly,it sets out a lot of education cases through observing and interviewing with firstborns,parents,grandparents in four group of families.The dissertation then classifies,analyzes these cases and come to current education situation for firstborn from the parents.Self-reliance,example-setting,responsibility cultivation,learning habits are concerned to the firstborn in this part.Meanwhile,educational problems to the firstborn have been revealed from four dimensions such as cognition,emotion,behavior,and attitude.Positive guidance,care and love,equity,and patience are lacking as result in these families.The causes of above are mainly due to shortage of scientific parenting ideas,ignoring the firstborn's affection needs,differentiation among family members,and limited attentions.At the last part,to cope with these causes,the dissertation presents strategies: to change educational concepts;to raise the level of scientific education;to spend more time companying the firstborn;to concern about the firstborn's physiological changes;to improve educational fairness within family;to build up a positive communication with the firstborn;to establish a unified education work;to act in unison,etc.
