Biology curriculum standard for compulsory education(2011 edition)suggests that some small materials and extracurricular reading materials should be included in the compilation of textbooks,and some optional experiments and further activities should be designed to broaden students' knowledge,develop students' hobbies and specialties,and cultivate students' innovative spirit and exploration ability.According to the standard suggestion,the junior high school biology textbook of Jiangsu education edition(authorized by Ministry of Education in 2012)specially set up the column of “ extracurricular inquiry” for students' further study outside class.The questionnaire survey in this study shows that most students enjoy and participate in the exploration activities of this column.Meanwhile,the interviews by 10front-line biology teachers in the local district indicate that few teachers use the column in their teaching process.The main causes are several objective factors such as lack of lesson period,activity materials,exploration places,also owe to seasonal and regional restrictions.Others attribute it to some subjective factors such as teachers' backward teaching theory,limited level of guidance and poor practical ability.In view of the conflict between strong needs of students and neglecting the column of “extracurricular inquiry” in daily teaching from our teachers,I organize my 3 classes to conduct practical research aiming at the column,then put forward several effective applied strategies for other teachers who use the column.(1)In daily teaching,teachers should carefully study the curriculum standard,accurately grasp the teaching direction,change the educational concepts,strive to improve their professional ability,earnestly understand the intention of compiling textbooks,and make full and rational use of all kinds of curriculum resources provided by textbooks,permeate the concept of lifelong learning to students,reasonably use part-time for extra-curricular inquiry activities to make up for the lack of in-class teaching.(2)Before carrying out “extracurricular inquiry” activities,teachers should carefully analyze each activity to figure out the type,the equipment,the purpose,the design form of the activity,and fully respect the students' willingness to choose the activity on the basis of the diversity of activity forms.(3)In order to ensure the effective implementation of the activity,teachers should carefully organize the activity,especially pay attention to the allocation ofactivity groups,creating good activity situation,formulating a good activity plan.At the same time,effective control and guidance,suitable evaluation and display in the process of the whole activity are necessary.At the same time,the thesis combines with the practice research to develop several teaching cases in the five sorts of “extracurricular inquiry” activities,including “the investigation and data analysis”,“the experiment”,“visiting”,“cultivating &making” and“public welfare publicity”,which can provide some references for other teachers to use the column.The thesis analyzes the applied effect by the aid of the questionnaire survey and the interviews in allusion to the students,the students' diaries recording some feelings in the activities and teachers' logs for the progress of the activities,then draws a conclusion that the column of “extracurricular inquiry” should be used reasonably in the daily teaching because it has some functions of promotion in the following aspects for the students,such as stimulating interest in biology,developing multiple abilities,broadening the knowledge and horizon,cultivating positive emotions.
