State in 2012,2013,respectively,issued new edition of junior high school biology of seventh and eighth grade.The column of extracurricular reading and practice of new edition includes: "Scientists Story","STS","Related occupations of biology ","Biology with Literature","Biology with Art","Extracurricular".These columns play an important role of bringing up the reading ability and practical ability of the students.The paper surveyed and analyzed the teaching Situation of the column: First,it provided the initial research results of this aspect,which can be used by other researchers.Second,it discovered problems in the teaching of new materials about this column,and then found advantages and disadvantages of edition settings,providing a reference for subsequent revision of this textbook.Finally,it provided advises for the teachers to make better use of this column.The research methods include literature research,comparative study and questionnaire.The paper selected nine middle schools of Henan,Hebei,Shanxi,Hubei and Jiangxi province,and chose the students and teachers in these schools as the questionnaire survey.Preliminary mastered the problems in the teaching of the column of extracurricular reading and practice in biology teaching material of junior high school,and proposed related countermeasure.By textbook analyzing and literature comprehensive study found that: “the column of extracurricular reading and practice” was in line with the concept of biological new standard,which was in favor of courses aim,helped students to consolidate classroom knowledge,helped students develop read,think,practical and innovative ability,so as to enhance students' biological science literacy;This column also followed the characteristics of physical and mental development of junior high school students,In favor of physical and mental development of junior high school students.Textbook paced with the times in terms of preparing sections.New edition adjusted the number and content of the column,and added some new scientific progress,and deleted some activity whose practical is not strong.The scientific of the column is further improved.The survey found that: Students had high interest for the column of “extracurricular reading and practice” in biology teaching material,and willing to learn and explore;Most biology teachers recognized the significance of embody the concept of new curriculum standards and achieve curriculum goals of the column of “extracurricular reading and practice” in biology teaching material.But there were some teachers do not even pay attention to the value of teaching ignore this column.Overall,the teaching situation of the column of extracurricular reading and practice in biology teaching material of junior high school was not optimistic,and had a gap with the compulsory education curriculum standards.The main problems: the first is need to improve the scientific interest of the textbook column;The second is the geographical applicability and the flexibility of teaching contents of Column is not enough;The third is the lack of professional qualities of biology teachers in junior high school;The fourth is lack the supporting of student learning objective conditions;The fifth is the teaching utilitarian under the guide of the existing examination system;The sixth is the lack of appropriate standardized teaching evaluation system.For the above comprehensive reasons lead to the poor teaching situation of the column of extracurricular reading and practice in biology teaching material of junior high school.For the above findings,the paper presented some advises recommendations for the column of extracurricular reading and practice,in preparation of textbooks,improving teaching quality,creation learning conditions,changing teaching philosophy and formulating teaching evaluation system and other aspects.
