The large-scale development of higher vocational education in China started in 1998,which is the main force in popularization of higher education.After nearly 20 years of development,higher vocational education in China has achieved a transformation from scratch,from small to large,from scale development to quality improvement.Regardless of the number of school institutions or students,higher vocational education has accounted for half of higher education in China.In order to implement the "National Vocational Education Reform Implementation Plan" to further promote the requirements of the era of high-quality development of higher vocational education,we must carefully sort out,analyze and summarize the higher vocational education research process in China,and condense the characteristics of theoretical research and practical exploration of different periods.It has very important theoretical significance,practical value and basic role in guiding and promoting the high-quality development of higher vocational education in the future.This study uses the CiteSpace software for mapping knowledge domains analysis of higher vocational education research,taking the 38166 journal articles and 11455 references in the field of higher vocational education research in China from 1998 to 2018 based on CNKI and CSSCI database as the research object to sort out the development of higher vocational education research in China.This study explores the different peirods of development of higher vocational education research in China according to the number of published academic journal articles and related important policy documents by the overall sample approach.At the same time,this study analyzes the status of higher vocational education research in different periods to compare,explore and find out the development of higher vocational education research in China by comprehensively using the methods such as literature analysis,comparative research.This study summarise,condense and combes the each peirod characteristics and overall development characteristics of higher vocational education research in China,and puts forward relevant suggestions and prospects.This study found that higher vocational education research in China can be divided into three development stages.1998~2005 is the initial rise period.2006~2011 is the rapid development period.2012~2018 is the quality improvement period.This study further summarizes the overall development characteristics of higher vocational education research in China,and summarizes the five general characteristics.First,looking at the progress from the amount of articles,it has gone through three stages of "increasing-decreasing-stabilizing".Second,looking at the progress from the number of journal sources,it has gone from less to more.The source of the journals has stabilized,mainly focusing on the four core journals of higher vocational education,but the quality level of the journals needs to be improved.Third,looking at the progress from research subjects,the core group of authors of higher vocational education research has not yet formed,but the core group of institutions of higher vocational education research has formed.The cooperation between research subjects is not strong,and there is less connection between the subjects.Most of the research subjects do research independently,however,cooperation between the subjects has a tendency to gradually strengthen.Fourth,looking at the progress from the research theme,it has a strong continuity from focusing on scale development to quality improvement.The research theme has always focused on "talent training mode" "work-study Integration" "school-enterprise cooperation" "professional setting" "teaching reform",etc.The talent training research has been been continuously continued,the school-enterprise cooperation research has been gradually deepened.The awareness of the ideological and political education research has significantly enhanced.Fifth,looking at the progress from the knowledge base,it is an important reference for higher vocational education research,and the research content of knowledge base has gradually become concrete.This study systematically sorts out the research progress of higher vocational education in China in the past 21 years.This study explores and attempts to divide the research process into three periods: the initial rise period,the rapid development period and the quality improvement period.At the same time,this study applies the mapping knowledge domains to higher vocational education research,which enriches and innovates the method system of higher vocational education research.This study is limited by time and space,etc.It only collects the data of CNKI and CSSCI databases.In the future,it needs to be expanded to a variety of databases to further enrich the research data and improve the comprehensive coverage of higher vocational education research literature to promote higher vocational education research in China.
