Innovation ranks first in the five major development concepts.Innovative development is the key to solving the difficult problems of economic and social development,such as severe excess production capacity,constraints on resources and environment,and forming a new driving force for development.As the key area for the new round of industrialization in China,Central China should be transformed from relying on traditional resources and labor-driven production methods to the knowledge economy basing on the innovation.With the rapid development of market economy,enterprises have become one of the most important actors of industrial innovation.Knowledge spillovers among inter-industry companies are particularly important for improving the level of industrial innovation.Therefore,it plays an important role in promoting the innovation level of manufacturing industry in Central China by studying the influence mechanisms of technological relatedness and industrial innovation.This paper firstly measures the time-series characteristics of provincial manufacturing innovation levels from provincial total innovation and manufacturing industry innovation,Using ArcGIS and OpenGeoda to analyze the spatial pattern and agglomeration features of industrial innovation Levels in Central China.Then,basing on the improved Hidalgo research method this paper calculates the four-digit manufacturing the technology relatedness indicator,and the OLS regression model is constructed with five control variables including the intensity of competition of enterprises,investment in enterprise innovation,government policy support,industry-level market liberalization,and FDI spillover in the industry to analyze the impact mechanism of technological relatedness on industrial innovation.Finally,this paper proposes relevant policy recommendations.The main conclusions are as follows:(1)On the temporal-spatial pattern,the level of manufacturing innovation in central China has gradually increased,and the level of innovation in urban manufacturing has high correlation with economic level.From the perspective of the internal share of manufacturing,the double-digit manufacturing innovation levels in Central China in 2000,2007 and 2013 shows relatively large changes,with the proportion of high-tech manufacturing rising or falling,and the share of medium-technology manufacturing rising significantly.From the perspective of agglomeration characteristics,the manufacturing innovation level of cities in Central China was not related to the space between 2000 and 2007 and gradually became spatial autocorrelation in 2013.High and high agglomeration areas are mainly distributed in the central of Anhui Province,low and low agglomeration areas mainly distributing in the western of Hubei Province and Hunan Province and the southern of Hubei Province.(2)As time goes on,the positive relationship between technological relatedness and industrial innovation has become stronger and stronger.This is mainly related to the increasing emphasis on innovation by enterprises.The increase in the number of R&D institutions and personnel in enterprises is conducive to effective communication between industry/inside enterprises.Formal and informal links between enterprises can significantly promote knowledge spillovers.In addition,the high-strength corporate competitive environment and government support will help improve the level of manufacturing innovation.(3)The technological relatedness has a significant regional difference in promoting the innovation level of manufacturing.Excluding Shanxi Province,technological relatedness has positive effects on manufacturing innovation in other provinces to varying degrees.And the effects in Anhui Province,Hubei Province,Hunan Province,Henan Province,and Jiangxi Province decreases in turn.(4)The higher level of technology in the manufacturing industry,the stronger the inter-industry of technological relatedness to the promotion of industrial innovation,indicating that the knowledge spillover intensity of different levels of technology among manufacturing companies is different.The subsidy income has a significantly higher promoting effect on high-tech industry innovation than the low-tech industry,but it does not have a significant effect on the promotion of the medium-tech industry.This shows that the government is paying more attention to and supporting the development of high-tech manufacturing.(5)The government should use technological relatedness to formulate standards for policies,formulate relevant policies to attract investment for related industries,and make certain choices in the process of undertaking industrial transfer.The government should establish scientific and technological service institutions and innovation platforms to promote enterprise innovation and foster leading innovation companies and support SME innovation through the entrepreneurship.
