With the rapid development of urbanization and industrialization in our country, the cultivated land resources of our country are decreasing continuously, thus more and more agribusiness enterprises turn their attention to overseas countries. At the same time, the comprehensive and in-depth development of our country's opening to the outside world and the state's strong support for the "going out" strategy of enterprises provide a rare opportunity for China's foreign direct investment in agriculture. The scale of foreign direct investment in agriculture is gradually expanding, and the trade effect of investment is becoming more and more obvious,to some extent, which bringing convenience for our country to import agricultural products, and is beneficial to the stability and safety of the import channels of agricultural products, and thus plays an important role in ensuring the domestic food supply and the stability of the agricultural products market. However, there are few domestic studies on the relationship between foreign direct investment in agriculture and the import of agricultural products in China. Therefore, this paper quantitatively studies the impact of foreign direct investment in agriculture on the import scale of agricultural products by empirical method, which can not only enrich the domestic research in related fields. It also has great significance for Chinese agricultural enterprises to make foreign direct investment and stabilize the domestic agricultural products market. This paper firstly combs the existing domestic and foreign literatures, and finds that from the perspective of international trade theory, foreign direct investment(FDI)has the function of promoting and substituting for import trade.Through further analysis,it is found that foreign direct investment in agriculture can promote the import of Chinese agricultural products by making full use of the comparative advantages of the host country and the local agricultural field and the technology spillover effect.Through further analysis,it is found that foreign direct investment in agriculture can promote the import of Chinese agricultural products by making full use of the comparative advantages of the host country and the local agricultural fieldand the technology spillover effect.Based on this, this paper uses the empirical method to verify the relationship between China's foreign direct investment in agriculture and the import of agricultural products. And because of the important basic position of ASEAN countries in China's foreign investment and trade and the promotion of the "Belt and Road" project,Therefore,in the empirical part,we choose China's direct investment in agriculture in ASEAN countries and the amount of agricultural products imported from ASEAN countries as an example to make an empirical analysis. The results show that the foreign direct investment of agriculture has a positive effect on the import of agricultural products in China. Both theoretical and empirical analysis show that China's foreign direct investment in agriculture can play a leading role in the import of agricultural products,so this paper finally puts forward some policy suggestions from the aspects of expanding investment to import driving effect and improving the import market and structure of agricultural products by diversification of investment.
