In 2015,from the perspective of economic globalization,Shanghai government proposed to build Shanghai into a science and technology innovation center with global influence,retain high-tech talent,and attract multinational companies to settle in Shanghai.The core of the science and technology innovation center is innovation.Innovation is the core competitiveness of a company or even a country.This article focuses on the innovative performance of multinational R&D center employees.This paper first reviews the concepts,dimensions,influencing factors,and related research of cross-cultural management,innovation performance,cultural values,and cross-cultural interaction competence.Hofstede proposed a fivedimensional national cultural values theory.Subsequent studies found that even if the cultural values of organizations or individuals in the same national culture are very different,the study of the five dimensions of cultural values gradually extended to the organizational level and individual Level.From the individual level,this paper studies the influence of employees' cultural values orientation on employee innovation performance.Based on the cross-cultural context,this paper proposes the role of cross-cultural interaction competence in the adjustment of employee cultural values orientation and employee innovation performance.According to theoretical deductions in the existing research,established theoretical model of this paper.Through the investigation of Shanghai's multinational R&D center employees,this paper empirically tested the theoretical model and some of the hypotheses ware verified.The study found that:(1)Employees' cultural values orientation can significantly affect employee innovation performance.When employees hold low-power distance cultural values,weak uncertain avoidance of cultural values,collectivist cultural values,flexible management culture values,long-term oriented cultural values,employee innovation performance is better.(2)Cross-cultural interaction competence significantly regulates the role of power distance,uncertainty avoidance,collectivism,long-term oriented cultural values on employee innovation performance.Employees with high cross-cultural interaction competence can weaken the negative effects of high power distance,strong uncertainty avoidance,weak collectivism,and weak long-term oriented cultural values on employee innovation performance.Based on the research conclusions,this paper proposes several suggestions for strengthening cross-cultural management of multinational R&D centers.(1)Promote the integration of cultural values and build a collaborative culture.(2)Improve employee cross-cultural interaction competence and strengthen cross-cultural training.(3)Develop cross-cultural communication channels and pay attention to cross-cultural influences.
