As an intangible asset, intellectual property rights provide incentive for enterprises to obtain lasting profits and advantages. The research and development achievements of the enterprise are easily imitated and plagiarized by other companies under the bad intellectual property rights protection environment.Inadequate intellectual property rights protection systems prevent R&D companies from achieving expected profits, thereby reducing the R&D enthusiasm of domestic companies, which in turn will affect a country's level of export technical complexity.Of course, there are other indirect approaches to the effect of intellectual property rights protection on the export technological sophistication.Indirect approaches include: international investment, import trade, and technology transfer.China's economic development is in a critical period of transition, and the economic growth is changing from high-speed growth to medium-high growth. The scale of China's trade has increased significantly, and the trade structure has been constantly optimized and upgraded. However, the overall development is still in the labor-intensive middle and low-end industries, and the development of high-end industries is insufficient. The research on the complexity of export technology has important practical significance for analyzing China's export trade structure, international division of labor status, and international competitiveness.Based on the relevant theoretical research, this paper combs and analyzes the influence of intellectual property rights protection on the export technical complexity, and empirically tests the data.In terms of transmission mechanism, the effect of intellectual property rights protection on export technological technology is divided into direct effect and indirect effect.Indirect effects include three channels through foreign investment, import trade and technology introduction. In the empirical aspect, first of all, through the trade data in the CEPII-BACI database to calculate the technical complexities of various types of commodities, and then calculate the technical complexity of the export of each country according to the export technological sophistication of various products. Finally, data from 2000-2015 in 128 countries were selected for empirical analysis.Through the test of mixed regression,two-stage least squares, and mediating effects, the results showed that:(1)Intellectual property rights protection has an effect on the complexity of export technology, but the trends in developed and developing countries are not consistent.(2)Through the mediating effect test,it is found that there are significant mediating effects in R&D investment, import trade and technology authorization, but FDI does not show significant mediating effects.(3)Among the three major methods for the introduction of international technology, there are significant differences in the role played by the technical upgrading of exports in various countries.
