The project schedule management is a critical factor directly related to whether the whole project can be accomplished on schedule and in good quality.To increase its product competitiveness,W Company is confronted with problems to be solved such as improving the delays of new product development and shortening the lead-time to market of new products.Simple and easy,traditional project schedule management technologies including Gantt chart,PERT and CPM have been widely applied to the project management.However,they are not suitable for new product development with high uncertainties owing to the long estimated time of construction period,unconsidered resource constraints,lack of buffer time or warning system for buffer management and other defects.First of all,the research background and significance of the schedule management for new project development in W Company have been elaborated,as well as basic contents and main methods for binding theory and critical chain technique have been introduced in the paper.Secondly,the project schedule management for new wireless product development has been summarized again and problems existing in the development project for new wireless products in W Company have been analyzed including the long estimated time of construction period,lack of schedule risk management and constraints of key human resources,etc.Thirdly,the critical path method has been adopted to conduct WBS,project resource estimation and duration estimation for the development project of the new Wireless AP product named WAP3004 so as to determine the preceding and succeeding logical relation of the procedure,formulate project schedule diagram and draw up critical path network;critical chain technique has been further applied to re-estimate procedure duration of the project,re-identify the critical chain in consideration of resource constraints,set up project buffer and feeding buffer section,realign project schedule diagram and re-paint the critical path network.And the data of the project have been taken to carry out researches on the differences between critical path method and critical chain technique to analyze the contrast effects before and after optimization.Finally,implementation effects of the new Wireless AP product named WAP3004,based on resource constraints,have been adopted to verify the practicability of critical chain technique in shortening the total project duration,accelerating the project schedule,advancing thelead-time to market of new products and improving the problems in project schedule management resulted from traditional critical path methods.The critical chain technique is of great guiding significance for the project schedule management of new product development in W Company and of reference significance for the project schedule management of new product development in medium and small enterprises such as W Company.
