The college entrance examination is the most authoritative examination to test the ability of students in basic education.The English test is a test based on the high school English curriculum standards and syllabus to examine the language ability and thinking ability of high school graduates,especially the reading comprehension test focusing on the examination of students' thinking ability on the basis of language knowledge.Studying the examination of students' ability can objectively reflect the relationship between students' ability and the test.In addition,critical thinking ability is one of the important high-order thinking skills that society needs today,and it is of great significance for cultivating innovative talents.The study of students' critical thinking ability on the English volume in the college entrance examination can not only find problems about students' ability in the English paper to a certain extent,but also help improving the quality of the test preparation,and it also can help high school teachers and students understanding the college entrance examination in English.Of course it can guide the direction of teachers' teaching and promote the effective development of students,as well.This study selected the reading comprehension questions of the 2012-2016 college entrance examination(English)in Beijing volume,Shanghai volume and the New Curriculum Standard I volume as the research object.Firstly,the seven types of questions examined in college entrance examination English reading comprehension were determined by literature methods,namely,the detailed questions,reasoning questions,word questions,subject questions,opinion attitude questions,article structure questions,and text source questions.Then this study used the literature method to determine the four dimensions of the critical thinking ability involved in English reading comprehension.They are interpretation,analysis,evaluation and inference.After that,the analysis method was adopted to determine the analysis standard of the English reading comprehension questions based on critical thinking ability.On this standard,this study uses text analysis to analyze the 208 reading comprehension questions which have been selected and get research data.The study finds that the test of the critical thinking ability in the English college entrance examination highlights the characteristics of comprehensiveness of the dimensions,the level of thinking,and the flexibility of the test.At the same time,it also finds that some college entrance examination English papers have many changes on the test of critical thinking ability and are still in the stage of exploration and improvement.On the basis of that,it proposes some questions in inspection of the test fairness,the quality of questions and student development,including that the rigorousness of test questions needs to be improved,and the focus of the examination is notprominent enough as well as the scope of the examination of dimensions still needs to be clarified.This study eventually settled on the perspective of fostering students' critical thinking ability through college entrance examinations.And the study gives some suggestions that the education administrative department should formulate policies to declare students' actions.The test writers should improve the quality of propositions from the part of test making progress,contents and evaluation system.The senior high school English teachers should deepen the critical thinking awareness of developing students' critical thinking ability.And senior high school students should strengthen the training themselves to examine and foster the critical thinking ability in the English language.
