Research On The English Translation Of New Words In Chinese Teaching Materials For Foreigners

Chinese teaching as a foreign language should focus on the lexical teaching,and the English translation,for the foreigners,is the bridge of learning Chinese new vocabulary.To study the translation of new words in the textbook of Chinese teaching as a foreign language,the English is the most common and authoritative choice.The English translation of the new vocabulary table including four procedures,that is the selection of vocabulary,The specific translation from Chinese to English,language organization and expression,editing and typesetting.This thesis take The Elementary Chinese for Everyone and Boya Chinese Elementary,altogether four textbooks,as an example,to analyze the English translation problem appeared in all steps of translation by combining the internship experience in Sheng Niao high school in Thailand and four steps of new words translation.The first part will mainly introduce the English translation principles of new vocabulary in TCFL textbooks.The second part compare the commonality and difference between two textbooks,and list all the types of English translation problems of new vocabulary in TCFL textbooks,the writer found that it is the most severe problem that the lexical meaning of the Chinese is not just the same as the English,and respectively the simple English translation without instruction,the unreasonable new words selection and the English meaning differ from the context.The third part take 3-5 problem cases from the textbook and comprehensively analyze all kinds of English translation problems existed in TCFL textbooks.The foutth part put forward the concrete suggestions,such as list method,antonyms method,interpretative method and limit method,in order to improve the English translation quality of new vocabulary in TCFL textbook.
