Mencius's Thought Of "the People Are Noble And The King Is Despised" And Its Contemporary Ethical Value

The people are the foundation of the country.The establishment of the country is based on the unity of the people.Since the primitive society,human beings have evolved from individuals to communities to organizations,and eventually formed a state.The so-called home country,the country belongs to the people,and the people belong to the country.In the long history,people gradually realized the relationships between the people and the country.In the mutuality of various interests,people gradually discovered the close relationships between the people and the country,which was led by the ruling class.So the relationships between the monarch and the people joined in the tide of historical reorganization.With the changes of dynasties,the relationships got rid of the stale and brought forth the fresh.As the inheritor and innovator of Confucius,Mencius put forward the idea of "the people are more important than rulers" when lobbying for other countries.He conveyed the idea of "the people are of the most importance,the society is less important,and the monarch is the least" to the world.This idea exchanged the status of "the people" and "the monarch",controlling the expansion of "the monarch" and raising the inferiority of "the people".This article explores the basic content of the thought of "the people are more important than rulers",and explores the process of Mencius’ thought of "the people are more important than rulers" from both the vertical and horizontal directions of history.In the process of historical development,the thought of "the people are more important than rulers " is also advancing with the times.Different times have different interpretations.Through the historical stage and social environment of the country,it analyses the proposal、practice and value of the thought.From the perspective of historical evolution,modern social development and future political direction,this paper will clarify the existential value of the thought of " the people are more important than rulers " and explore the fundamental content of the thought and its internal relationship with the development of the country from the aspects of politics,economy,society,culture,ecological civilization and ethics,and interpret the thought’s meaning of the traditional Chinese culture and the value of its contemporary transformation to the development of contemporary society.
