A Pragmatic Study Of Modern Chinese Greetings

Phatic communion refers to the language form in which the communicator,in order to establish,continue or terminate the communicative behavior,mainly expresses emotions and supplemented by information transmission,which is conducive to the harmonious communicative atmosphere in the process of communication.Phatic communion generally exist independently,or at the beginning and end of the topic and the transition of two topics.Phatic communion plays an indispensable role in maintaining People's Daily communication.Therefore,this paper tries to make a comprehensive analysis of modern Chinese phatic communion from the perspective of pragmatics,based on the theory of contextual adaptation and literature analysis,so as to provide theoretical guidance for the better use of phatic communion.This paper is divided into five parts.The introduction part mainly clarifies the background and significance of the topic,summarizes the previous studies on the ontology and application of modern Chinese phatic communion,and explains the research methods,corpus sources and innovations of the paper.The first chapter defines and classifies the research objects.First of all,starting from the communicative intention of the speaker,this paper defines phatic communion from multiple perspectives such as syntactic position and function.Then,with reference to previous studies,the commonly-used phatic communion,in daily life are classified into six categories: address,greeting,inquiry,comment,thanks and apology,and the commonly used combinations of modern Chinese phatic communion,are summarized in a descriptive way.The second chapter mainly discusses how the context factors restrict the choice of modern Chinese phatic communion.Context restricts the selection of phatic communion,which is mainly divided into two parts: cultural restriction and situational restriction.Among them,cultural context mainly considers historical and cultural background and social norms and customs,while situational context conducts research and analysis from subjective factors,objective factors and temporary factors.The third chapter discusses the pragmatic meaning expressed by the relevant contextual information on the basis of phatic communion,mainly divided into behavioral meaning and emotional meaning,which can help the speaker to better use greetings to convey emotional information,and the recipient to better understand the meaning.The fourth chapter,after discussing the form and meaning of phatic communion,analyzes and studies its function.The pragmatic functions of modern Chinese Phatic communion are mainly in the following two aspects: discourse function and communicative function.According to the position of discourse,discourse function is divided into the function of topic induction,the function of atmosphere adjustment,the function of topic cohesion,the function of topic termination and the function of relationship consolidation.The communicative function is divided into three functions: degree of familiarity,social distance and face maintenance.
