This report is based on the interpreting task that the author of the report did for the delegates of the Regional Anti-terrorist Structure of Shanghai Cooperation Organization during their visit in Harbin.The escort interpreting task includes helping the foreign guests with the hotel registration and accompanying them to attend the banquet and visit Harbin.In this report,the author discusses the problems that occurred during the interpretation and the solutions to them.By summarizing all these above,the writer would like to provide helpful references for future interpreting.Chapter One is the introduction to the task.Chapter Two reviews the interpreting practice.In Chapter Three,according to the analysis of the cases,the author discusses the problems and the coping strategies.As for the listening and understanding obstacles caused by those delegates’ Indian English accent,the author puts forward the method of mastering the pronunciation characteristics of Indian English.As for how to translate the names of Chinese dishes accurately,the author proposes the methods of literal translation,free translation and transliteration with explanation.For the problem of interpreting Chinese run-on sentences into English verbosely,the author recommends the omission method.For the obstacles of communication caused by improper translation of Chinese idioms,the translation strategies of domestication and foreignization are applied.Chapter Four is the summary.Through this task,the author realizes that there should be more exercises in variety ways to improve the ability and quality of interpretation,.
