Portrait photography is a long-established and widely used form of photography.It takes people's themes and deals with people's images.Collective portraits,as a unique one,not only depict each individual,but also explore the individual relationship with the whole of multiple individuals.This article begins with the collective portraits of the 17th century,traces the origin of collective portrait photography,and organizes its development context.In the second chapter,it divides the collective portrait as contemporary art into three categories—the collective portraits in the context of visual anthropology,the collective portraits whose subjects are regard as collective symbols and the collective portraits of role-playing.In the third chapter,the main topics of collective portraits of contemporary art are explored,and finally conclusions are drawn.
