Analysis Of The Interpretation Skills Of Long And Difficult Sentences In Government Press Conferences From The Perspective Of Variable Translation Theory

Based on translation variation theory,this paper studies the translation skills of the Chinese long and complex sentences in government press conference.Long and complex sentences are very difficult in the process of C-E consecutive interpretation and exert great impact on the quality of translation in the whole process.So this paper takes the long and complex sentences as examples which are in Press Conference for the Fifth Session of the 12^th National People's Congress and the First Session of the 13^thh National People's Congress,summarizes the difficult points,explores and studies the translation skills of the Chinese long and complex sentences under the guidance of the translation variation theory.By analyzing the characteristics of the Chinese long and complex sentences,this paper summarizes the difficulties of oral interpretation in government press conference such as informative sentences and redundant words,loose sentences structure,proper nouns and culture-loaded sentences with Chinese characteristics.This paper presents four major translation variation methods to resolve such problems based on variation theory,which include selective interpretation,editing interpretation,explanatory interpretation and adaptation interpretation.And also these four translation variation methods can be used to resolve those problems to a great extent respectively.To delete the redundant words and phrases and extract the point,we can use selective interpretation;Editing interpretation can be used to rearrange the orders and integrate the content of sentences with loose structure;Explanatory interpretation can be used to interpret proper nouns and culture-loaded sentences with Chinese characteristics;And adaptation interpretation can be used to explain the meanings of the Chinese ancient poetry and sentences with figures of speech,aimed to meet the needs of listeners.Through abundant examples,this paper explains how those four types of variation theories can be used flexibly in the interpretation of Chinese long and complex sentences.It stresses the importance of the skills of variation theory,resolves the difficult points of the interpretation for Chinese long and complex sentences.While being faithful to the original,it will also further improve the quality and efficiency of interpretation to better serve listeners and customers.
