2018 Samoa Financial Development Seminar Interpretation Practice Report

This report is based on the Chinese-English interpreting service for the Symposium on economics in the course of the Samoan delegation's exchange and study in China in2018.The interpreting for several well-chosen lectures including China's economic situation and human resource policy will be taken as examples for case study,to discuss and analyze the problems that arose or may arise in on-site interpreting between Chinese and English,so as to find the corresponding strategies and solutions for Chinese-English interpreting.In the process of reviewing and summarizing the cases,focus will be put on the aspect of pre-translation preparation,which could be divided into three stages,namely,the early stage,the mid-late stage and the temporary stage.The preparations for each stage will be fully explored and the comparison between the original and the translation in the Interpretation Progress Stage listed.In the chapter of Case Analysis,the study will be focused on the interpretation of economic-related topics.Some typical cases will be selected to summarize the errors in the process of interpretation and some difficulties encountered,which can be divided three parts: the problems related to improper pause,mistranslation and correcting;the handling of the confusing logic and redundancy of the source language;and the obstacles in the field of terminology.In the following context,the reasons for the mistakes will be analyzed,and the corresponding coping strategies,such as addition,rewording,integration of free translation and explanation,reorganization and moderate simplification,will be listed with aims to solve the problems.The forth part is the summary,with the significance and value of this practical activity elaborated and the limitations of this practical report pointed out.This practice report is completed on the precondition of the interpretation practice.It is hoped that this report will provide the other interpreters with reference for future study of the practice in interpretation andtranslation.
