This thesis probes into the contents, methods and roles of pre-assignment preparation in English-Chinese consecutive interpretation (preparation before interpretation for short) based on experiments and interviews.The findings of the research show that preparation before interpretation include terminology, thematic background information, speaker background, the site preparation, and so on. The thesis also explores some specific methods of preparation.Findings of the experiments and interviews show that sufficient preparation helps improve interpretation quality, and it also helps interpreters know better about the theme of the task, ease their tension and deal with emergencies.This thesis aims to make interpreters more aware of the importance of preparation before interpretation, provide them with feasible preparation methods and help them complete an interpretation task more successfully.
