A Study On Cross-cultural Adaptation Of Cameroonian Students In Nanjing University

Cross-cultural adaptation refers to the process of participants in the new environment and gradually forming appropriate and effective communicative competence.Thi s research takes the Cameroonian students in Nanjing as the object of investigation,analyzes the problems and causes of Chinese cultural adaptation faced by them in the special regional environment of Nanjing,and put forward a series of suggestions to solve the problems.With the significant economic development in China and the wide spread of Chinese culture,an increasing number of foreign students including Cameroonian students come to china for study.However,the problem of cross cultural adaptation has also been revealed.This research discusses this problem from eight aspects:environmental adaptation,service mode adaptation,academic adaptation,public morality adaptation language adaptation,psychological adaptation,interpersonal communication adaptation and social support adaptation.This research adopts the methods of questionnaire and data statistics in order to investigate the Chinese cultural adaptation of 100 Cameroonians students from Nanjing.First of all,the literature method is used to complete the reading and sorting work of domestic and foreign research status and theoretical basis.Then,100 Cameroonian students from Nanjing are investigated by questionnaire.Data statistics and comparative analysis were used(SPSS,EXCEL and R.3 software)to analyze and summarize.The research found that the Cameroonians students in Nanjing adapt to Chinese culture at a moderate level who are having the highest adaptability to service mode and lowest adaptability to social support.From the point of view in gender,there is no signi ficant difference between mal and female Cameroonian students cultural ddaptabili ty,the two groups have shown the highest adaptation in the service mode,and the lowest in social support.Moreover,the cultural adaptation increases with the longer of study time.Based on the results,the author puts forward some suggestions like:let students take Chinese classes to improve their Chinese level,help students to more understand Chinese culture,improve the basic living conditions of international students.Through the research,some results was obtained.First of all,this research investigates the cultural adaptation of the Cameroonian students in Nanjing,and does not make a comprehensive survey of the Cameroonian students from others universit ies in china.Secondly,the cul tural adaptation of Cameroonian students is not compared with that of foreign student s from others countries.Therefore,in the future research,we will make efforts based on these two aspects,in order to obtain more achievements.
