Refusal Sensitivity, Social Anxiety And Social Avoidance: The Role Of Emotion Regulation Strategies And Gender

Interpersonal problems have always been an important issue affecting the mental health of college students.College students are in the early stages of adulthood,establishing relationships with others is a key task in this period,but modern college students often have problems with interpersonal interactions,resulting in social anxiety and accompanied by social avoidance behavior.There have been a lot of researches on college students' social anxiety and social avoidance.This study mainly introduces the concept of rejection sensitivity,and hopes to explore whether this personality trait will be related to social anxiety and social avoidance.Meanwhile,this research also hope to study the mediating role of emotional regulation and the moderating effect of gender so that find a way to improve social anxiety and social avoidance and provide a new way to improve the level of interpersonal communication among college students.In this study,720 college students and postgraduates from Nanjing,Hefei,and Guangzhou universities were selected as subjects,and questionnaires were conducted using the rejection sensitivity questionnaire,emotional adjustment strategy questionnaire,social anxiety and avoidance scale.Descriptive statistics,difference test,correlation analysis and regulation effect analysis were performed using SPSS22.0;confirmatory factor analysis,mediation effect test and regulated mediation test were performed on the data with Mplus7.0.The conclusions are as follows:1.There is a significant difference in the rejection sensitivity of college students and graduate students in the only child;the expression suppression strategies of college students and postgraduates have significant differences in grades,while the cognitive reevaluation strategies have significant differences in gender;Fore the social anxiety,there are significant differences in gender and grade.2.The expression suppression strategy and cognitive reassessment strategy plays a partial mediating role between rejection sensitivity and social anxiety and social avoidance.Rejection sensitivity through the expression suppression strategies affects social anxiety and social avoidance behaviors.Rejection sensitivity through the cognitive reevaluation strategies affects social anxiety and social avoidance behaviors,.3.Gender plays a regulatory role in the mediating role of emotional regulation strategies in rejection sensitivity and social anxiety and social avoidance,and regulates the second half of mediating.The higher the score of male expression inhibition strategy,the stronger the social anxiety,while the higher the female expression inhibition strategy score,the lower the social anxiety,and the expression inhibition strategy has more in fluence on male social anxiety;the more male cognitive re-evaluation score high,the less social avoidance behavior,and the higher the female cognitive re-evaluation score,the more social avoidance behavior,and the cognitive re-evaluation strategy has a greater impact on male social avoidance behavior.
