Idioms are fixed phrases or sentences with fixed structure and complete meaning formed in long-term social practice.The emergence of idioms enriches people's communication language and connotation.Whether in China or Vietnam,the use of idioms is the most distinctive linguistic phenomenon in both countries.In the ancient times of the two countries,the means of transportation were not as developed as they are now.The most commonly used means of transportation for human beings was horse.Therefore,in the long-term life with horses,by observing the characteristics and living habits of horses and the role of horses in human life,we can endow horses with various cultural connotations and humanistic colors in different fields.In the cultures of the two countries,horse is a very important role,so the idiom of "horse" in Chinese and Vietnamese idioms is a very important category.At present,there are few articles about the study of the idiom of "horse" by scholars at home and abroad,mainly focusing on the semantic analysis of the idiom of "horse".Up to now,there are very few articles about the study of the structure.Therefore,this paper will expand the research on this topic and provide more references for Chinese and Vietnamese learners.This paper first defines the Chinese and Vietnamese idioms and compares the Chinese word "horse" with the Vietnamese word "horse",and then divides the definition of the Chinese and Vietnamese idioms containing the word "horse".By referring to four dictionaries of Chinese idioms and four dictionaries of Vietnamese idioms recognized by authorities,this paper makes statistics and investigation.Secondly,this paper makes a comparative study of the structure and semantics of the Chinese and Vietnamese idioms with the word "horse".In terms of structure,idioms are divided into two groups: joint and non joint.The form of internal structure of each group is analyzed and the number and proportion of idioms are counted.In terms of semantics,this paper divides the relationship between the literal meaning and the actual meaning of the Chinese and Vietnamese idioms with the word "horse" into three major relationships:complete correspondence,partial correspondence and complete non correspondence,and compares the symbolic meaning between the two languages,so as to find out the similarities and differences.Finally,through the comparison results of structure and meaning,the paper points out the causes of similarities and differences,reveals the problems that Vietnamese students are easy to encounter in their study and daily use,so as to help students reduce the mistakes in the structural collocation and semantic understanding of the "horse" idiom,make them better understand the cultural meaning of the Chinese "horse" idiom,and put forward some suggestions for the teaching of Chinese idioms as a foreign language.
