Positive psychology originated in the United States at the end of the 20 th century.It is an emerging field of psychological research.Positive psychology mainly focuses on people's virtues and development potential,people themselves,and positive aspects of people.They believe that psychology should be based on human potential,actual existence and plasticity virtue,potential and good qualities.To promote and stimulate the positive energy and excellent characteristics of human beings it is suggested that we should make a new interpretation of many psychological problems and psychological phenomena from the perspective of positive mentality.In the field of education,positive psychology provides a new perspective of research.The goal of positive psychology is consistent with the goal of educating students which is to explore and develop people's own potential,cultivate positive personality,and ultimately happiness of people's psychology.Therefore,positive psychology provides theoretical guidance for the primary school English teaching in the field of psychology.In the meantime,the application of positive psychology in English teaching of the upper grades(refer to the fifth and sixth grades)does good to students of developing positive personality,forming a harmonious relationship between teachers and students,stimulating students' interest in English learning,and cultivating students' self-learning awareness.Based on the relevant research at home and abroad,this paper uses literature research method,investigation research method,action research method and interview method to investigate the current situation of English teaching in upper grades of primary school.The method is applied to the English teaching of upper grades in Primary School.The results show that the application of positive psychology in English teaching in the upper grades of primary school can effectively promote the development of English teaching in primary schools.
