The East China Sea,with its special geographical position,has always been treated as the marine strategic point by the mainland China,Taiwan,Japan,Sou th Korea,and even the United States of America.There are long lasting proble ms of territorial disputes over Diaoyu Islands and the surrounding waters betwe en China and Japan,and disputes of fishery resources between Taiwan and Japa n.Furthermore,since a number of oil and gas resources have been discovered t here recently,the issue of the exclusive economic zone demarcation of the East China Sea between China,Taiwan and Japan becomes more and more controve rsial.After the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea goes into effect,the inte rnational marine order and ways of fighting have also changed.This is particula rly obvious in disputes over the East China Sea between China,Taiwan and Ja pan.This paper,with disputes over the East China Sea between mainland Chin a and Japan,and Taiwan and Japan as its entry point,lists specific contents of the three sides separately.It also uses the method of comparative analysis to c ompare the major measures of mainland China about the East China Sea disput es with its counterpart of Taiwan and give a conclusion,finding out the same a nd the difference,And it discusses about the possibility of cooperation between the two governments on the settlement of East China Sea disputes.
