In an increasingly mediatized society,the political system is not only greatly influenced by the political reporting of mass media,but also can regulates itself to meet the needs of the mass media.The relationship between media and politics is getting closer and closer,and the more people use the media,the more their political attitudes and behaviors will be affected by the media.This article explores the impact of media usage behavior on the political identification of the new social stratum in contemporary China through a questionnaire survey.The new social stratum is a new middle class that has emerged along with China's economic structural reform.Reform and opening up of our country have changed China's economic system,and have also caused profound changes in the structure of our social class.The increasing differences in lifestyles and interest demands of the original working class,peasantry class and intellectual class has amplified,and non-public ownership economic personages and freelance intellectuals have gradually emerged——the so-called "new social stratum".In contemporary China,the new social stratum plays an important role in promoting the development of socialism with Chinese characteristics.Its role in economic and social development in China has become increasingly prominent.The social status and group composition characteristics of the new social stratum determine that their political identity is not only related to their own development and value realization,but also has a very important impact on social stability and the future of China's political development.The study found that the usage on broadcasts and newspapers of new social stratum can significantly predict their institutional identification,party identification,and governing identification.And meanwhile,network usage of the new social stratum only can weakly predict their governing identity.In comparison,traditional media is stronger than new media in predicting the political identification of new social stratum.Based on the research findings,this article proposes methods to cultivate political identity of the new social stratum at three levels: individual,media,and society.
