Since the establishment of the market economy system in 1978,China has gradually formed a large-scale migration population. As an important aspect of social changes in China, population migration has stimulated social vitality and promoted regional economic development;on the other hand,it has changed the population of urban and rural areas, optimized the urban system, and promoted the process of urbanization in China. It has become a hot academic research at home and abroad. The research field involves all aspects of population migration, such as the nature of population migration and influence factor, spatial distribution patterns, and the impact of population migration on the development of regional economy and urbanization. It has achieved fruitful research results, but it also has the following issues: the research units chosen are large, mainly macro-scale and municipal scales, and the micro-counties at the county and town scales are less studied;as to the effect of population migration, the focus is on the impact of population migration on economic development. And there are few studies on the effect of population migration on regional urbanization, and most of the results have been based on qualitative research.Shandong is the second largest province in China, and it is also a major province of population migration. The migration and mobility of its population should also be paid attention to.Therefore, taking population migration of Shandong Province as the research object, based on the fifth national census data and the sixth national census data of the whole country, the paper selected data from the study of the spatial pattern of migration population in Shandong and used quantitative methods to explore the impact of population migration on urbanization.First of all,the paper uses two census data to discuss the spatial pattern and evolution of population migration in Shandong Province from micro county and town scale. The study found that the spatial distribution patterns of the inter-county migration population and the town-level migration population in our province are basically identical and are adapted to the economic development pattern of our province. The main manifestation is that population migration is mainly concentrated in the coastal areas of the higher level of economic development in central and eastern provincial capital,The areas with less population are mainly distributed in the lower level of economic development of the western and southern inland areas. The distribution is in a centralized situation, which is the distribution pattern of the migration population from the county perspective.Based on the further study of the township scale,it is found that the central urban areas of county and county-level cities are also one of the main agglomeration areas for the migrating population. The type of population migration is mainly based on the local farmers entering the city.Next, based on the characteristics of urbanization in Shandong Province, the paper analyses the impact of population migration on urbanization.Through data comparison and analysis,it is found that urbanization of Shandong Province has the following characteristics: the urban population base is large;the urbanization rate is lower than the national average;the urbanization of population is dominated by the nearest urbanization model;the level of urbanization development is obvious. Then the effect of population migration on urbanization was explored using fractal methods. The impact of population migration on the level of urbanization and the impact of population migration on the urban system were explored from the national, provincial, and county levels. The following conclusions were drawn: firstly, the population migration does promote the improvement of urbanization in China,Shandong, and its counties and cities, and with the increase of the total population of Shandong's migration, the contribution of population migration to the urbanization rate will further increase.Secondly, the migration of the population has also had a certain impact on the urban system of Shandong Province, but it has not fundamentally changed the scale distribution of the urban system in our province. Finally, aiming at the problems existing in population migration in Shandong Province and how to make the population migration to better promote the development of urbanization in Shandong Province, put forward the following suggestions: firstly, reform the existing household registration system, strengthen their own characteristics;secondly, strengthen the construction of the city, establish an equal social security system in urban and rural areas;thirdly, strengthen the construction of cities and towns to build a reasonable and orderly hierarchy system.
