Map is the language of geography.Map teaching is an important means for teachers to consolidate students’ geographical knowledge,develop their geographical ability and cultivate their key competencies.Junior high school is the beginning stage of geography learning.The advantages and disadvantages of map application affect students’ knowledge and interest in subjects.The education department of Shandong province carried out the activity of "one teacher,one excellent course" to create high-quality course resources,providing reference for teachers’teaching and providing examples for map application.Map application is a process of deepening and consolidating geographical knowledge.Therefore,it is a task before us to understand the current situation of map application in geography quality class of junior high school,analyze its advantages and existing problems,and explore scientific and efficient map application strategies.Firstly,through literature research,this paper summarizes the research status at home and abroad,clarifies the concept of map application,and determines the theoretical basis of map application,including cartography theory,communication theory,multiple intelligence theory and double coding theory.Then,the observation record form and evaluation scale were developed to observe the application of geography quality lesson map in junior middle schools in Shandong province.Through analysis,it is found that the application of high-quality course map attaches importance to students’ subject status,generates knowledge through interaction,and teachers can combine modern media with traditional teaching.However,there are also some problems,such as the situation setting emphasizes picture and text over experience,and the evaluation of speech is relatively simple.Finally,according to the observation results,the enlightenment of map application is obtained,which can be divided into two aspects:application principle and application strategy.The principles of map application include question-oriented principle,step-by-step principle,heuristic principle,student-subject principle and consolidation principle.The strategy of map application is developed from three aspects of map selection,map presentation and map reading,supplemented by specific application cases.When selecting the map,we should return to the course standard,broaden the channel and ensure the scientificity.Present the map,seize the opportunity,select the way;When reading the map,we should set up the situation,optimize the problem,clarify the steps of reading the map,standardize the technical behavior,and carry out various activities to reflect students’ subjectivity.The research on map application is of great significance for promoting the professional development of geography teachers and improving the learning effect of geography for students.The evaluation indexes in this study are combined with relevant literature and Suggestions from experts and teachers,but they are still somewhat subjective,which may affect the validity of the scale.Whether the scale can be used in geography class can be further expanded.In addition,it is the future research direction to classify junior high school geography teaching content and study map application according to modules in teaching practice.
