It’s internationally acknowledged that the picture story books are the mostsuitable books for children. Picture story books tell stories though the art story ofcombining words and pictures together. As it gains more and more attention, picture storybook is also widely applied to education. Our kindergartens take picture story bookreading as an important form of education of early reading. From the existing literatureand teaching practice, the level and degree of using picture story books in teaching isuneven in different kindergartens. Since the picture story book teaching is started not longago, many teachers have a lot of confusion in the practical operation of picture story bookteaching, and indulged in some false cognition, due to the lack of teachers’ professionalknowledge, which resulted in loss of value of picture story books teaching to a certainextent. One major reason why this problem occurs is teacher’s lack of strategies whendesigning the reading activities of picture story book.Firstly, start from the existing activity design of picture story book reading, this paperuses the method of content analysis and case study method to analyze the current existingproblems in the design of activities. Secondly mining in theory is beneficial to the“nutrition” of picture story book reading activity. With the whole language theory andemergent literacy, the theoretical basis for design strategy is to be found. Thirdly, based onthe value and meaning of picture story book reading to children, this essay discussed thedesign strategy of picture story book reading, aiming at leading the picture story bookreading practice and improving the education value of picture story book reading. Finally,the practice of the strategy is applied to the kindergarten picture book reading educationactivities, to test the effectiveness of strategies. Based on the above research approachesand process, this essay will put forward strategies in the aims of activities, selecting of thecontents, approaches and procedures of picture story reading, and combination of readingand writing in picture story book’s reading.
