“International Children’s Day” is a special event in the routine life of kindergartens and a concentrated presentation of kids’ group culture. The kindergarten organizes celebrating activities of “International Children’s Day” for young children on June 1 every year.Combined with the actual status and characteristics of the kindergarten festival activities, the study on the “International Children’s Day”activities in kindergartens aims to investigate the understanding and views of early childhood educators on “International Children’s Day” thoroughly, analyzing the effectiveness and problems of the activities to propose education suggestions for improving activities to strengthen the effect of celebrating “International Children’s Day” in kindergarten and promote the common growth of children, teachers and parents. In this study, the researchers adopted qualitative research methods with interviews as the main part and material object analysis as the supplemented part, collected and sorted out the practical material of the festivals from 50 kindergartens in2015-2019,to grasp basic understanding of the development status of celebrating“International Children’s Day” in kindergartens.Through in-depth interviews with 3kindergarten leaders and 13 teachers from 4 kindergartens in N city, this paper draws a deeper and more comprehensive picture of the concept of the activity organization of “International Children’s Day” in the kindergarten.Taking the operating procedures of the festival as the longitude and the participants as the latitude, this paper comprehensively explores four parts of the kindergarten’s “International Children’s Day”,namely, value and purpose, plan and preparation, content and form and structural change. The reliability and validity of the study is safeguarded by multiple data collection methods and multiple data sources to realize the “Triangulation”.The study showed that:(1)In terms of the value and purpose of organizing the“International Children’s Day” activities in kindergartens, kindergarten teachers have basically established the concept that the festival belongs to young children, and can understand festivals from five dimensions,i.e.,kid,teacher,kindergarten,curriculum and family society.Despite the great variation of individual preschool teachers’ concept, their cognition generally shows the characteristics of convergence in the kindergarten and convergence of positions.(2)In the planning and preparation stageof the activity, the children are mostly the “advisers” of the activity; The decision-making of the activity preparation is still in the charge of the kindergarten leader. The process of activity preparation is very hard for teachers. There are many problems such as long preparation time, difficult content selection and busy rehearsal preparation.(3)“International Children’s Day” activities mainly have two forms:performance-based and game-based.At present, the form of “International Children’s Day” activities in kindergartens has undergone a significant shift to games-based festivals in line with the development trend.(4)As the activity form changes, the purpose of the festival and the time and space of the activity organization of the kindergarten have all changed, and the overall characteristics of the kindergarten have changed from emphasizing on the result to emphasizing on the process, from adhering to the rule to pluralistic openness, from stressing adult experience to children’s standpoint.Based on the above research results, the paper analyzes the factors affecting the development of kindergarten “International Children’s Day” activities from the micro, meso, and macro levels, and puts forward a series of recommendations for teachers, kindergartens, parents, society and other participating, respectively, and integrates all parties’ strength to jointly optimize the “International Children’s Day” activities in kindergartens.
