Population development and international trade are interrelated, and the research on the relationship between labor participation rate and firm export is of great significance.Since 2012,the industrial structure of our country has been gradually adjusted and the population aging tendency has been aggravated. In order to promote the balanced development of population and improve the population development strategy, the state fully liberalized its second child policy in 2016.This measure not only reflects the country's emphasis on population and economic issues, but also urges more institutions, industries and the general public to pay more attention to the relationship between population and economic development.Under the background of this policy, studying the topic of firm export from the perspective of female labor force participation rate is a worthy focus point.Based on the data of Chinese industrial firms from 2002 to 2006 and the statistical yearbook data of 284 cities in 29 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities(excluding Hong Kong,Macao,Taiwan,Tibet and Xinjiang),this paper studies the impact of urban women's labor participation rate on the export of firms.Firstly, the results show that there is a positive correlation between the female labor force participation rate and the export of enterprises, that is,the increase of female labor participation rate can promote the export of enterprises, and this conclusion is robust after data processing, replacing the estimated model, using another measure of female labor force participation rate and quantile regression. Then, the article verifies the effect of two transmission mechanisms of cost effect and productivity effect on firm export. The empirical results show that with the increase of female labor force participation rate, enterprises cost less, which brings a positive effect on their export.Besides, the increase of female labor force participation rate can increase the productivity of female-skill-biased firms, which can then promote those enterprises' foreign trade.Further, the article explores the regional differences, such as excluding the large cities of Beijing,Shanghai, retaining only the eastern region and retaining only the port cities, the empirical results show that there are regional differences indeed. What's more, the article considers the differences of firm characteristics and studies a few multiple sub-samples.The empirical results still support the conclusion that the increase of female labor participation rate is conducive to the export of enterprises. Finally, the article points out that under the background of today's increasing aging population, the policy of second child by the state embodies the focus on population and economic issues. The female labor force is also an important part of social wealth and value creation. As a young and promising new independent woman in the new era,we must continue to strengthen our overall quality in skills training and education training, enhance our confidence in work, and give full play to our expertise so that our strength can be more fully reflected in the competitive industries. We believe that in the future, the role of female labor force participation rate in promoting the export of enterprises will be given more full play and the population structure and economy will achieve rational development.
