Since the reform and opening up,China's economic level has advanced by leaps and bounds, and the level of urbanization is constantly improving. The urban form has become large-scale and collective. The “urban agglomeration” has been becoming an issue and gradually a hot topic.People gradually realize that the urban agglomeration has gradually become an important force to enhance the country's overall competitiveness and enhance its national strength. When developing into a highly mature stage of urban agglomeration, the traditional medium and short-distance intercity passenger transport system dominated by road passenger transport has far been unable to meet the public's needs for daily travel and the requirements of cities for economic exchanges,so the intercity rail transit arises at the historic moment. The intercity rail transit has many advantages, such as rapidity, punctuality, safety, comfort, low impact by the weather, and conservation of land resources. The intercity rail transit can enhance the internal accessibility of urban agglomeration, save transit time, promote the development of related industries, strengthen the economic linkages within the urban agglomeration, and promote balanced and coordinated regional development. This can greatly promote the economic development of the urban agglomeration.Under the above premise, this paper uses the methods of literature research, simulation and empirical research to explore the impact of intercity rail transit on the economic development of urban agglomeration.First,on the basis of reading and referring to a large number of documents, this paper comprehensively uses the knowledge of regional economics, new economic geography and other disciplines. After giving a brief introduction to intercity rail transit and urban agglomeration, and giving their definitions,The impact of the inter-city rail transit on the economic development of urban agglomeration at the stage of investment and construction, the direct impact of intercity rail transit on the economic development of urban agglomeration during the operational phase, and the indirect impact of intercity rail transit on the economic development of urban agglomeration during the operational phase are discussed in this paper. From the perspective of theory, the impact of intercity rail transit on the economic development of urban agglomeration is analyzed, which lays a theoretical foundation for the full text. Then, based on the analysis of the impact of intercity rail transit on the economic development of urban agglomeration, this thesis uses knowledge of system dynamics and the help of Vensim software, according to the steps of modeling objectives analysis, system boundary analysis, causality analysis, model flow diagram analysis, model subsystem analysis, and the model's main equations,to build a system dynamics model of intercity rail transit-urban agglomeration economic development, and subdividing the system into economic subsystem, traffic subsystem, and employment subsystem and population subsystems in subsystem analysis to facilitate research. Finally, taking the Pearl River Delta Urban Agglomeration as a case for empirical analysis, the relevant data in the Pearl River Delta Urban Agglomeration is treated simply and given as an initial value to the system dynamics model of intercity rail transit-urban agglomeration economic development. After the model passes the validity test, this paper carries out basic scenario simulation and policy simulation respectively.According to the simulation results of the basic scenario simulation and policy simulation,it can be seen that the construction and operation of intercity rail transit in the Pearl River Delta Urban Agglomeration can have a positive effect on the growth of the urban agglomeration GDP,the first industrial output value of urban agglomeration, the second industry output value of urban agglomeration, the third industry output value of urban agglomeration, total employment population, and total population of urban agglomeration.Among them, the driving force for the growth of the third industry output value of urban agglomeration is the most obvious. The increase in the absolute value of the total employment population and the total population of the urban agglomeration cannot be underestimated.Although the increase in the mileage of intercity rail transit in the Pearl River Delta Urban Agglomeration can continue to positively stimulate various variables, the stimulating effect of the increase in unit operating mileage will decrease with the gradual improvement of intercity rail transit.Based on the above, the paper proposes two policy suggestions for the Pearl River Delta Urban Agglomeration: First,to ensure and appropriately increase the investment in intercity rail transit;Second, tooptimize the setting of intercity rail transit routes for rationally distributing the industrial structure and spatial structure of urban agglomeration.
