| At present, the manufacturing industry is once again becoming the focus of global economic competition. Therefore, building a manufacturing industry with international competitiveness is a necessary way to promote the high-quality development of China’s economy.According to the 2017 Development Index Report on Raising China’s Manufacturing Power officially released by Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2018,China,though compared with developed countries, ranks among the world’s largest manufacturing nations, its manufacturing industry is still lagging behind in terms of independent innovation capacity, industrial structure, information construction, quality and efficiency. The task of transformation and straddling development is urgent and arduous. In face of new situations and challenges, the Chinese government has formulated the "Made in China 2025”strategy,which clearly states the requirements for the development of service-oriented manufacturing, and places particular emphasis on the status and role of the productive service elements in the transformation and upgrading of manufacturing industries. With the continuous development of service-oriented economy and manufacturing service in recent years,China’s productive service trade has made considerable progress. In 2017,China’s total trade in productive services reached US$334.5 billion,of which imports were US$195.6 billion and exports US$138.9 billion. However,at present,China’s producer service trade still has deficiencies such as low openness, small total volume, and unreasonable import structure, especially the problem of technical mismatch. Therefore,it is of great practical significance to expand and optimize the import and structure of China’s productive services so as to greatly increase the international competitiveness of China’s manufacturing industry. In view of this, this paper uses a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to study the impact of technical complexity of producer services import on the international competitiveness of manufacturing.First of all,the mechanism of that impact is analyzed, based on the introduction of the relevant theories.Second, through the analysis of the status quo of China’s producer service trade and manufacturing industry development, the thesis points out the problems in the development process.Third,on the basis of measuring technical complexity of producer services import and constructing the international manufacturing competitiveness,an empirical analysis, with panel data,is conducted on how the technical complexity of producer services import affects the international competitiveness of manufacturing industries. The result shows,on the whole,a strong promotion effect, with the impact on high-tech manufacturing industries in particular;and, the producer services imports at different levels also have different effects on the international competitiveness of manufacturing. Finally, this paper, based on the results of empirical analysis, proposes relevant strategies and suggestions from the perspectives of lowering market access of service industries, promoting free flow of high-end elements, optimizing the import structure of producer services, raising the level of industrial agglomeration, and raising the level of human capital and information construction. With all these efforts, the paper aims to provide decision-making reference for relevant departments. |
