With the continuous development of regional economy and increasing market competition,as the main carrier of various innovation activities,the city's innovation ability has become an important symbol of the city's comprehensive competitiveness and a decisive factor for the regional economy to obtain international competitive advantage.As a gathering place of various factors,whether the concentration of production factors and the concentration of innovative factors can improve the comprehensive competitiveness of cities is a research topic worth exploring.For a long time,scholars have carried out extensive research on innovation efficiency and accumulated rich results.It is generally believed that the gathering of factor sets brings scale effect and helps to improve the efficiency of urban innovation.However,some scholars believe that there is an optimal size of factor aggregation.When the optimal scale is exceeded,the gathering brings crowding effects,such as the Williamson hypothesis.At present,most relevant domestic researches are carried out at the provincial level,focusing on the linear relationship between the industry and the innovation efficiency from the perspective of industrial agglomeration.It is less studied from the perspective of factor aggregation and urban scale.The content neglects the factors or industrial agglomeration and innovation efficiency.The nonlinear relationship also ignores the spatial spillover effect of feature aggregation on the innovation efficiency of surrounding cities.Taking 285 prefecture-level cities in China as an example,this paper discusses the effects of labor agglomeration,material capital agglomeration and human capital agglomeration on urban innovation efficiency by constructing common panel models,threshold models and spatial econometric models,and discovering labor and material capital.Agglomeration significantly reduces the efficiency of urban innovation,and the concentration of human capital has clearly promoted the efficiency of urban innovation,indicating that China is shifting from factor-driven to investment-driven to innovation-driven development.At this stage,although cheap labor saves production costs for enterprise production,it is difficult for assembly line workers to rely on simple machinery to bring about an increase in urban innovation efficiency.The continuous supply of cheap labor to the city has led to the lack of incentives for enterprises to improve their equipment for technological innovation,and even the tendency of the general labor force to ?over-densify?.At the same time,the accumulation of material capital shows a significant negative externality to the efficiency of urban innovation,and this externality has a significant threshold effect.To a certain extent,this reflects the fact that the quality of urban fixed asset investment in China is still low at present,most of which are repeated investment and lack of technological transformation,resulting in the technical content of physical capital investment is still low.It can be seen that the lack of technologically improved material capital investment makes it difficult to reverse the iron law of diminishing marginal benefits of fixed asset investment.Urban human capital agglomeration has obvious promotion effect on the improvement of urban innovation efficiency,which indicates that China's current urban innovation efficiency is mainly driven by innovation,and human capital agglomeration is the core of urban innovation development.The research results of the impact of different factor agglomeration on urban innovation efficiency reveal that China's urban development is gradually shifting from factor-driven and investment-driven to innovation-driven stage.The growth path of urban innovation efficiency is gathering from innovative elements such as traditional elements to human capital.Make a change.This reminds all cities in China to focus on innovation-driven development strategies to promote high-quality urban development,continue to increase talent introduction,and improve the technical content of physical capital investment.Through the rational use of innovative capital,science uses innovative technologies to vigorously introduce innovative talents,bring multiplication effects to complex and related economic systems,enhance urban innovation efficiency,and accelerate efforts to create innovative cities.
