Study On The Influence Factors Of Landless Peasants'Occupation Status Attainment

With the rapid development of modernization process in China,land expropriation has become more and more common in the urban-rural districts.As a result,a large number of landless peasants who get change from peasants to urban residents come into being.The farmer is not only a household registration,but also a symbol of occupation,the landless peasants faces both transformation in the occupation and a severe test of survival.Employment is the foundation of the people's livelihood,solving the employment problems is an important guarantee for the landless peasants' sustainable development in the future.Therefore,this study focuses on the discussion of the factors that influence the landless peasants' occupation status.The purpose of this study is to answer the question of why household registration transformation has not generally promoted the landless peasants' occupation status.This study uses quantitative research method,the analytical framework bases on Blau and Duncan's occupational status attainment theory and combining with the previous research conclusions.This study uses 8 years data of Chinese General Social Survey(CGSS)involving landless peasants' data from year 2003 to 2015 to do the correlation analysis,multiple linear regression and logistic regression.In order to explore the difference of the factors that influence the occupation status under the household registration difference,this paper makes a comparative study between the landless peasants and the migrant workers who both born in rural but have different household registration now,and builds the regression model for this two groups respectively.Through data analysis,this study finds that family background,personal factors,social communication influence the landless peasants' occupation status,and the self-induced factors have more degree of influence.This conclusion verifies that the self-induced factors and ascribed factors hypothesizes from the classic occupational status attainment theory is also applicable to landless peasants.This study also finds that monetary compensation policy of land expropriation,employment policy of land expropriation,social and economic environment have a special impact on landlesspeasants.It indicates that policy orientation and market orientation are both play an important role in the landless peasants' occupation status attainment.Combining with the research conclusion,this study points that the household registration transition cannot fundamentally reduce the differences between urban and rural areas.We should change the dual social structure gradually,promote peasants' employment skills,improve the social economic environment and the resettlement and social security policy of land expropriation,broaden the employment channels for the landless peasants to enable they can truly benefit from land expropriation.
