| The report of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China denotes the fact ’Socialism with Chinese characteristics’ has entered a new era. There is a principal contradiction in the society in that development is not necessarily balanced and sufficient, meaning the need for an improved life might not be congruous with the vision.China has entered the era of mass tourism and demand for travel has grown significantly.Has this been coupled with an imbalance and insufficiency in the supply of tourism?A-grade scenic spots are the core tourism resources in China.Clarifying the supply of A-grade scenic spots within different travel distances of tourism source regions is important. Not only can it serve as a point of reference for residents in these areas, but also has an important guiding value. The destination can promote its advantages in a purely competitive sense and the distribution of tourism across these locations can be analyzed from a supply standpoint.Based on the economic theory of availability, this paper proposes and defines the conception of tourism scenic spots’availability.Simultaneously, this paper constructs an evaluation index system for the tourism scenic spots’ availability of tourism source regions. Then, this paper seeks to explore the current situation faced by A-grade scenic spots in China by means of GIS spatial analysis tools and quantitative analysis methods such as Gini Coefficient,Nearest Neighbor Index and Kernel Density. Then, eight cities including Beijing,Shanghai,Guangzhou,Wuhan,Xi’an,Changchun,Kunming and Chengdu are selected as case cities. The The number availability, grade availability, cost availability, spatial availability and comprehensive availability of A-level scenic spots in different case cities’ different travel spaces were calculated and compared. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)The development of A-grade scenic spots in China has moved from quality enlargement to quality enhancement and there is an imbalance in both the hierarchical structure and spatial distribution of A-grade scenic spots:a)The number of 2A to 4A scenic spots is larger than that of 5A and 1A scenic spots in China. In addition, eastern provinces are generally superior to the western provinces in terms of the hierarchical structure of A-grade scenic spots.b)The distribution areas of A-grade scenic spots and population in China spatially overlap, with 87 percent of A-grade scenic spots located east of Hu Huanyong line and cluster across the Yangtze River Delta,Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and Shandong Peninsula.(2)The availability of A-grade scenic spots is defined as the number, hierarchical structure, distance from the tourism source region and spatial agglomeration of tourism scenic spots that can be visited by residents in a certain range of travel distances. At the same time,a quantitative evaluation method for the availability of tourism scenic spots spanning the four dimensions of number, hierarchical structure, distance cost and spatial agglomeration is proposed.(3)The availability of the tourism scenic spots is different across various tourism source regions. In the short distance travel space, case cities with different A-grade scenic spots’ availability are arranged in descending order as follows:Beijing,Shanghai,Xi’an,Guangzhou,Chengdu,Wuhan,Changchun and Kunming. For the middle distance travel space, the order is rearranged as follows:Wuhan,Beijing,Shanghai,Changchun,Chengdu,Xi’an,Kunming and Guangzhou. In the middle-long distance travel space, the order changes once again:Wuhan,Xi’an,Beijing,Shanghai,Chengdu,Kunming,Changchun and Guangzhou. The ordering of cities for long-distance travel also differs:Chengdu,Guangzhou,Kunming,Xi’an,Changchun,Wuhan,Beijing and Shanghai.Overall, the eight-category cities in Beijing,Wuhan,Shanghai and Xi’an A-grade scenic spots have better availability, followed by Changchun,Chengdu, and Kunming and Guangzhou’s A-grade scenic spots.(4)The location of origin cities and the unbalanced spatial distribution of A-grade scenic spots in China are the main factors affecting the availability of A-grade scenic spots in different origin cities. The contributions of this paper are as follows:(1)Proposing the conception and definition of tourism scenic spot availability.(2)Proposing the evaluation index system and method of tourism scenic spot availability in tourism source regions. |
