Encourage individual famers to pool the land into the join stock cooperative is the trend of current agricultural development. The join-stock cooperative does not require a change of the right to land contracting and management. The aim of the joining process it to solve the problem of inefficient rural land circulation,to increase farmers' own ability to resist risks associated with market economy,to reduce the lost accompany with nature disaster, and to widen the ways for farmers to profit.Eventually to increase farmers' income, and to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor. However, there is a gap in current literature in terms of the willingness of farmers to participate in cooperatives and their degree of satisfaction in participating in cooperatives of rural land, especially in the under development rural places. To better develop the land stock cooperative system and promote it in under developed rural areas, there is the need of evidence-based empirical study to help us understand farmers' attitude toward land stock cooperatives, factors in daily operating management that may impact the famers' satisfaction, and propose policy suggestions for the local government to refer to when making policies related to land stock cooperative system. In this dissertation,I reviewed the research in China and abroad related to rural land stock cooperative system.I introduced the Theory of Property Rights,Economies of Scale Theory, the Principle-agent Theory, and Public Choice Theory respectively. Then I summarized how these theories can be applied to help inform the practice. The object of the study was the agricultural cooperative of Changshan Village,in Sanya,Hainan Province.I collected data from 284 participants through survey. The information that collected including social demographic information such as number of people in the household and education level, and information relevant to participation in cooperative such as the household income before and after joining the cooperative, the willingness to join, and if participant work outside the village.More than 10 factors were presented in the dissertation along with descriptive analysis. There were 7 factors were selected as potential impactors of farmers' satisfaction on joining the cooperative.A logistic regression model was use to explore the relationship between farmers' degree of satisfaction and farmers' personal and family conditions, rate of return, and support from the government, etc. The research indicate that the average education level of participants is low,and the household income is low before joining the cooperative.Although the village and local government encourage farmers to join in the cooperative and farmers reported to be willing to join, the among the people who actually joined,123 households only pooled less than 40% of the land in the cooperative. In terms of the degrees of satisfaction of base profit income and bonus income, only 60 household reported to be unsatisfied.Based on the analysis, the main findings include: 1)the area of land is a significant predictor of level of satisfaction among farmers—the more contracted land the farmers has,the more satisfied they are with the cooperative;2)the willingness to join in the cooperation has a significant impact on the level of satisfaction. The more willing a farmer was in joining the cooperative, the more satisfied he is afterwards;3)minimum guaranteed income and participation profit income are significant predictors of satisfaction.More income is related to a higher satisfaction level among farmers.According to the findings, related recommendations were discussed.Including: 1)help increase the level of education among farmers, reduce the dependence on the land,so that farmers are more willing to participate in cooperative and the aim of scale operation of land and steady development of cooperatives can be achieved.2)Enforce the promotion of cooperative to ensure that farmers have realistic expectations of the cooperative and reduce the possibility of contradictions.3)Revise the distribution system of cooperatives, design profit distribution system that match with the actual ability of profiting, relief the pressure on the cooperative, and improve the inner incentive and restrain mechanism to make sure the cooperative operates well.4)Continue to gain support from the government, get assistant on technology and tax preference in the long term.
