Abstract/Summary:
Under the background of the “One Belt and One Road”,more and more Chinese Multinational Enterprises(CMNEs)are expanding into unstable markets in South Asia and Southeast Asia. This kind of behavior full of uncertainty is more similar to international entrepreneurship, and opportunity development is a key part of international entrepreneurship, but it is extremely difficult for Enterprises to realize opportunity development.CMNEs in the "infant" stage are faced with unstable market, which is difficult to achieve opportunity development. In addition, they also need to grasp two contradictory opportunities development behaviors under the condition of limited resources. In this paper,it was found on the spot in Yunnan Province that CMNEs actively communicated and interacted with partners in the market network of South Asia and southeast Asia.In this process,a large amount of knowledge was continuously colliding with each other, which also increased enterprises’ perception of opportunities. This flow of knowledge in the network is an important clue for enterprises to acquire opportunities. However, previous studies focused on the influence of social networks on opportunistic development behavior, and did not further explore how knowledge flowing in social networks affects opportunistic development behavior and how CMNEs can simultaneously grasp and effectively mobilize the two kinds of opportunistic development behaviors. Therefore, this paper from the perspective of social network to explore how CMNEs in South Asia and southeast Asia at the same time market to achieve international entrepreneurial opportunities? Specifically, whether the knowledge gained by CMNEs in social networks can allow it to simultaneously grasp development of imitative opportunities and development of innovative opportunities. What is the difference in the degree of its influence on the preference for development of imitative opportunities and development of innovative opportunities?First, this article identifies research questions through interviews and literature tracking.Secondly, this paper constructs decision-making scenarios of CMNEs in South Asia and Southeast Asia through policy capture and interview methods, and uses questionnaires to capture data on their opportunity-access behavior preferences, with a total sample size of 2610.Finally,this paper analyzes the data and examines the research hypothesis. The research data shows that:(1)fine-grained knowledge in the social network acquired by CMNEs can simultaneously promote its development of imitative opportunities preference and development of innovative opportunities preference;(2)codified knowledge in the social network acquired by CMNEs can simultaneously promote its development of imitative opportunities preference and development of innovative opportunities preference;(3)When CMNEs acquired more fine-grained knowledge in the social network, they preferred development of innovative opportunities;(4)When CMNEs acquired more codified knowledge in the social network, they preferred development of imitative opportunities. Therefore,CMNEs ’knowledge in the social network acquired through interaction with host country partners in the face of disadvantages in South Asia and Southeast Asia can enable them to grasp the two contradictory opportunities for acquisition behaviors of development of imitative opportunities and development of innovative opportunities, and can be flexible according to the target opportunity. To obtain a more appropriate type of knowledge in the network to effectively mobilize two opportunities to acquire behavior. The conclusion of this study responds to the idea that two opportunities coexist in entrepreneurial practice, answers the question of how to measure and grasp two opportunities for acquisition at the same time, and provides inspiration for the study of the relationship between knowledge and opportunities in social networks.
