Technological progress is of fundamental significance in promoting the division in international trade.Under the background of continuous development of technological level, the international trade mode has developed from inter-industry division,intra-industry division to intra-product division. When different production processes of products are allocated to different countries and regions in the world in pursuit of the lowest production cost, the global value chain arises at the historic moment.Since the 2008 financial crisis, the growth of major economies in the world has been sluggish, and the trend of restructuring global value chains and reshaping industrial division is obvious. As China's industrial development enters the post-industrial stage, the cost of factors rises and the demographic dividend gradually disappears. The realization of industrial transformation and upgrading is crucial to maintaining economic growth.Under the background that the mode of economic development is gradually transforming from factor-driven and investment-driven to innovation-driven,the importance of technological progress to economic growth is increasingly deepening.Facing the double pressures of international economic competition and domestic industrial transformation and upgrading, how to promote China's industry to climb to the middle and high end of the value chain through technological progress and push forward the new industrialization road to develop an innovation-driven economy is a problem that China's economic development must face.Based on the theories of global value chain, technological progress, industrial structure and other scholars' research, this paper sorts out the mechanism of technological progress affecting the length of global value chain and finds that technological progress has both promoting and inhibiting effects on the length of global value chain. This paper uses the world input-output database and the data of China's Statistical Yearbook of Industrial Economy, and uses DEA-based Malmquist index method andinput-output method to calculate the total factor productivity and global value chain length of each industry.Considering other variables that affect the length of global value quantity index, this paper constructs a measurement model, and empirically tests the specific effect of technological progress in industrial industry on the length of global value chain by using system GMM.The empirical results show that: first,on the overall, technological progress has a promoting effect on the length of global value chain in China's industrial industry;Empirical results of sub-sectors show that compared with technological progress in resource-intensive and labor-intensive industries, technological progress in capital-intensive and technology-intensive industries plays a greater role in promoting the length of global value chains.Second, the length of global value chain is divided into domestic and international. In resource-intensive and labor-intensive industries, technological progress can promote the domestic part of the length of global value chain, inhibit the international part and promote the whole length of global value chain. In capital-intensive and technology-intensive industries, technological progress has no significant effect on the domestic part of the length of global value chain, but it has a promoting effect on the international part, and it has a promoting effect on the whole length of global value chain.
