Abstract/Summary:
Timely identification of hazards and implementation of safety barriers to mitigate potential problems are fundamental for aviation safety. Consequently, a reporting program tailored to aviation personnel is supported by the user's beliefs about it as a reliable communication instrument and a truthful safety resource. The purpose of this study was to assess perceptions of maritime patrol and rotary wing operational personnel towards the Brazilian Air Force hazard report program. A descriptive survey was designed in an attempt to acquire input from users, their knowledge, attitudes and beliefs related to HAZREP, to define its role as a safety tool. The results determined a high level of satisfaction with usefulness and applicability of the reporting program, and also indicated that users believe in HAZREP as a reliable tool, but lack of feedback was demonstrated to be a concern among respondents, besides the fear of disciplinary actions inhibiting internal communication.
