Abstract/Summary:
This thesis documents a multi-modal treatment approach integrating art therapy and energy education with a 10 year old girl diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The research explored whether such a combined treatment plan could increase attentiveness and self-awareness in children suffering from ADHD.; The research consisted of 15 sessions of art therapy and energy education with the child. The child's mother also learned the energy practices, and further supported the child at home by using grounding techniques. Pre and post-session self-surveys administered to the child tracked increases in language awareness and attention to sensation. Under this multi-modal treatment design, the child reached a higher level of psychological and physical integration. Her awareness of body sensations, and her ability to artistically and verbally articulate her feelings, were both enhanced. Four months after the completion of this study, the mother reported that the child has maintained advancements.
