Abstract/Summary: | |
This thesis is a curriculum design proposing a new approach to teaching Classical Studies at the high school level. The thesis includes an extended appendix with course outline, assignments, a sample assessment and proposed interior design of a Classical Studies classroom/lab. The author addresses the social and academic benefits of teaching Classical Studies by demonstrating the cultural connections between ancient Greece and Rome to the modern Western world. Solutions to dispel the stereotype that Classical Studies is an elitist course are evidenced in the sections that address alternative methodology. More specifically, alternative approaches to teaching Classical Studies are discussed including interdisciplinary team teaching and concept-based pedagogy. The goal of this interdisciplinary curriculum design in Classical Studies is to create a course framework involving both history and literature that includes teaching methods encouraging a holistic erudition. |
