Abstract/Summary:
The thesis is a study of the short and long term consequences of awarding merit pay and other incentives in conjunction with programs that recognize and reward individuals and groups of employees for their achievements.; The purpose of the research is to evaluate strategies specifically designed to retain employees working in institutions of higher learning. Methodologies are examined in order to define core concepts that are used to improve the morale, motivation and team spirit of the staff.; Institutions of higher education strive to achieve the highest standards of education in a fast changing and increasingly competitive environment. Colleges must now compete for funds, generous benefactors, qualified staff, outstanding students, and a distinguished faculty that confer prestige, and enhance the reputation of the institution.; The research is designed to elucidate and implement ways and means of generating positive attitudes and job satisfaction for the college employees.
