Abstract/Summary:
This study was conducted to examine which combination of four demographic variables and scores on the Spiritual Well-Being scale best predicts a person who is satisfied with life. The variables of age, gender, ethnicity, and level of education, along with the scores on the Spiritual Well-Being scale, were used to better understand the most appropriate predictors of life satisfaction. The variable of ethnicity was eliminated from the study due to lack of variability, with the majority (93%) identifying themselves as Anglo-American. The purpose of this study was to better understand the components of spiritual well-being and life satisfaction, and the study was descriptive and exploratory in nature. Instruments used to measure the constructs of spiritual wellness and life satisfaction were the Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWB) and the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS), respectively. Participants in the study were one hundred and fifty-seven college professors from Truman State University in Kirksville, MO. The statistic used for this study was a multiple regression. Results of the study indicated that only the scores on the Spiritual Well-Being Scale predicted scores on the Satisfaction with Life Scale. None of the demographic variables contributed to predicting satisfaction with life.
